Bichir Senegal

The Senegal Bichir (Polypterus senegalus) is one of the most popular bichir species, admired for its prehistoric appearance and hardy nature. With its elongated body, armored scales, and multiple dorsal finlets, it adds a unique “living fossil” aesthetic to aquariums. Peaceful yet predatory, it is generally tolerant of tankmates too large to swallow, making it a fascinating and manageable choice for aquarists new to keeping bichirs.
