Synodontis petricola

Also known as the Petricola Synodontis, or Tanganyika Synodontis, this beautiful species is one of the most sought-after African catfish for aquariums. Native to Lake Tanganyika, it is smaller and more community-friendly than the larger cuckoo catfish (Synodontis multipunctatus), making it suitable for planted or Rift Lake setups. Recognizable by its elegant spotted pattern, active schooling behavior, and occasional upside-down swimming, Synodontis petricola is both hardy and full of personality. Our stock is sold as juveniles, ideal for growing out into their full adult size.

Discus.ae prefers younger stock for their better ability to adapt to new water parameters and higher tolerance against transport. On rare occasions you may receive larger specimens when small fish are unavailable, however the smallest should be expected unless the size is noted as "Large" or "Adult".
