Ivanacara Bimaculata

Important: This is a rare fish for advanced hobbyists. This cichlid has the ability to hide its color and transform its appearance based on mood and water condition, it will not display the colors shown on this page except when adapted to ideal conditions. Not suitable for mixed community tanks or shrimp tanks. Not recommended without your own preparation and research.

The Ivanacara Bimaculata, also known as Nannacara bimaculata, is a beautiful South American fish which prefers blackwater conditions. Due to its shy behavior when newly added, it does better in an aquarium dedicated specially for it where it can live without the presence of other competitive species and adapts faster when hiding spaces are present.

The color of this acara-type cichlid can completely fade and change depending on its mood, with both males and females displaying intense coloration and markings during their mating and spawning seasons (check images for examples). Typical territorial and cichlid behavior to be expected.

This fish does not eat or damage plants but prefers blackwater environments, it may not thrive in a high-tech aquascape setting with high presence of bright light, high CO2, and plant fertilizers.

We recommend our Stendker Granulat pellets with supplement of frozen Stendker Tropical Fish Food which combines important ingredients such as artemia, daphnia, crayfish, and more to promote optimum health and growth.

Research and preparation is required before purchasing to ensure its safety.
