Freshwater Pipefish
The Freshwater Pipefish (Doryichthys martensii) is an interesting aquatic animal that was originally found in streams of South East Asia. It has gained wide interest amongst advanced hobbyists for its exotic and interesting characteristic and appearance. Often compared to the saltwater Sea-horse for their similar mouth shape and slow shy movements.
A special aquarium with gentle water flow and taller plants to accommodate its slow and calm swimming is necessary. Tank mates may include shrimps, guppies, corydoras, hatchetfish, and other slow and calm species which does not interfere or compete with these unique and peaceful animals.
The Pipefish accepts a wide range of temperatures from 22°C to 28°C and a pH of 7.0 or above. They can be picky with food and prefer live foods such as Artemia (Baby Brine Shrimp, available in our catalog) especially when first introduced to a new environment. We recommend researching and learning more on this beautiful animal before placing your order.
