Apistogramma nijsseni

Primarily carnivorous and apparently feeds mostly on bottomfeeders and invertebrates in nature, the Apistogramma nijsseni, in the aquarium, should be offered regularly with live and frozen foods such as artemia, daphnia and bloodworm although most specimens will also learn to accept dried alternatives with pelleted products generally preferred to flake.

Captive-raised fish are the recommended choice for the community aquarium. Wild examples are best-maintained alone or with small 'dither' fish such as Nannostomus spp., and ideally should not be mixed with other Apistogramma.

Fish Size Guide:

The 'Maximum Size' outlined below is the length this fish can reach as a full grown adult. For the actual size please use the select menu above.

Discus.ae prefers younger stock for their better ability to adapt to new water parameters and higher tolerance against transport. On rare occasions you may receive larger specimens when small fish are unavailable, however the smallest should be expected unless the size is noted as "Large" or "Adult".
